7 under the radar Commanders players who must excel in 2024

Michael Davis - Commanders CB
The Washington Commanders are taking a big risk with their outside cornerback options heading into the 2024 season. Benjamin St-Juste and Emmanuel Forbes have big points to prove after underwhelming campaigns last time around. Mike Sainristil's arrival should solidify the interior, but giving up chunk plays is something that could potentially harm Dan Quinn's chances of making a better go of things.
Michael Davis was the one notable signing in free agency. The veteran displayed signs of regression with the Los Angeles Chargers last season. Perhaps a change of scenery will help the former BYU star, but getting off to a fast start is crucial.
Davis is in line to potentially start depending on Forbes' development throughout Washington's upcoming training camp. His experience could be an asset if he adapts well to Joe Whitt Jr.'s demands. If not, the Commanders have enough financial resources to acquire another dependable cornerback if the right opportunity comes along.
The Commanders might be counting on Davis more than most originally anticipated. If he rises to the occasion, the benefits will be enormous.
Jeremy Chinn - Commanders LB/S
The Commanders might have something on their hands with Jeremy Chinn. His rookie explosion with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 seems like a distant memory. However, those in power believe his intriguing athletic attributes can be unlocked once again within Dan Quinn's expansive defensive scheme.
Chinn thinks so too after reportedly turning down more money from the Pittsburgh Steelers to join Washington. He'll likely start alongside Darrick Forrest on the backend after the Commanders opted not to re-sign Kamren Curl. Fans should also expect the former second-round selection to get the freedom to roam and be impactful.
Some deficiencies in coverage cannot be ignored. But if Chinn is utilized similarly to his first season in Carolina, the Commanders have a tremendous player to call upon. He's also highly motivated to silence his doubters after Ejiro Evero made him almost an innocent bystander during the final year of his rookie deal.
Chinn's explosiveness, instincts, and ability to create turnovers look tailor-made for Quinn's defensive strategy. If everything goes well, a long-term extension in 2025 looks almost assured.
