Commanders could sign Amik Robertson

Jason Simmons was another notable arrival as defensive pass game coordinator. As every Washington Commanders fan knows, giving up too many big plays ended up being a significant thorn in the team's side under Jack Del Rio and Ron Rivera. Something that needs to be rectified as a matter of extreme urgency.

This starts in the cornerback room. The jury is still out on Emmanuel Forbes and Benjamin St-Juste after indifferent campaigns. Kendall Fuller remains a highly capable performer, but he's a free agent and might take his chances elsewhere. Quan Martin looks like a nice big nickel option with scope for further growth.

The Commanders need to find difference-makers in the secondary. Simmons could turn to a familiar face in the form of Amik Robertson, who performed well for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 and earned a career-high 87.4 passer rating when targeted as a result of his efforts.

Robertson knows Simmons' demands, which would enable him to slot in seamlessly in this scenario. Giving up 59.1 percent of targets thrown in his direction indicates the former Lousiana Tech standout is finally starting to put it all together at the right time.

Las Vegas and new head coach Antonio Pierce could make a concerted effort to keep Robertson around. However, the allure of working with Simmons again on a sleeping giant ready to be awoken could be too tempting to ignore.
