7 Commanders whose stock is plummeting ahead of Preseason Week 2
By Dean Jones
Preparations are gathering pace for the Washington Commanders. We're less than a month away from their regular season opener at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters should have a good lay of the land right now.
The Commanders' situation remains precarious despite some highly encouraging signs throughout the offseason. Some analysts believe this team is capable of mounting a shock NFC East title challenge. Others think it'll take a little longer and another top-five selection beckons in 2025.
The truth is somewhere in between. It's easy to get carried away by the obvious increase in energy around the building. But seeing how things evolve over the first few weeks of the campaign would be wise, especially with so many players posturing for spots or prominent involvement under the new regime.
With this in mind, here are seven Commanders players whose stock is plummeting - for differing reasons - entering Preseason Week 2.

Jamin Davis - Commanders DE/LB
The Washington Commanders won't be cutting Jamin Davis as some reporters have suggested. He's too versatile and talented for that. However, the former first-round pick's usage remains a conundrum Dan Quinn and his coaching staff must figure out quickly.
Davis got plenty of reps at the New York Jets. Most of these came as a defensive end, which is where he's spent most of his time transitioning to throughout the offseason. There were flashes of promise, but nothing to suggest he's ready to fill starting responsibilities.
Quinn stated he plans to utilize Davis among the linebacking corps on first and second down. Putting him next to Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu represents a potentially potent trio. In terms of becoming a legitimate edge-rushing force, there is a significant amount of hard work ahead.
The Commanders and Davis will keep striving to ensure this opposition switch goes smoothly. If things don't go according to plan, it's back to the drawing board entering the final season of his rookie deal.
