Jahan Dotson - Commanders WR

Jahan Dotson was tipped by many for a potential breakout campaign with the Washington Commanders last season. The wide receiver showed rookie promise and the introduction of Eric Bieniemy meant expectations went through the roof. It was a solid campaign, but nowhere near the level anticipated.

Dotson has yet to reach the heights of a first-round pick. The talent is there for all to see, so the new coaching staff must utilize him more effectively and work on ensuring his flaws become a thing of the past.

It would be a surprise if Dotson wasn't a focal point in Kliff Kingsbury's offensive attack. His athleticism and ability to create yards after the catch should be an asset. The play-caller would also be wise to get the Penn State product in motion frequently to find mismatches in the secondary.

This is all positive from Dotson's standpoint. However, it will count for nothing if the wideout doesn't become more consistent and rid his game of individual errors. That all begins by raising confidence in his capabilities over Washington's camp.

Emmanuel Forbes Jr. - Commanders CB

Nobody thought Emmanuel Forbes Jr. would crash and burn so spectacularly in 2023. Ron Rivera was convinced this was the answer to his prayers at the cornerback position. The head coach gave him significant responsibilities right out of the gate. Unfortunately, the former first-round pick was nowhere near ready.

Forbes' rookie campaign was a catastrophe. His lack of size was a concern before the draft. It resulted in the defensive back being bullied by wide receivers before and after he was benched. The Commanders fell by the wayside and Rivera paid with his job.

All hope is not with Forbes despite his long-term aspirations taking a hit last season. Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. come with proven credentials regarding cornerback development. It's going to be a crash course for the Mississippi State product throughout Washington's upcoming camp. He must come out on the other end as a better player and stronger character.

There's a chance for Forbes to earn a starting spot given the lack of dependable outside coverage options currently. Anything less will do nothing to improve his hopes of becoming what some anticipated after he became the No. 16 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
