Commanders could sign Blake Bell (TE)

Blake Bell turns 32 years old this week. He’s a big bruising runner and blocker – the kind of guy that really endears himself to a tough-minded fanbase.

Bell has certainly done that with the all-conquering Kansas City Chiefs since settling there in 2021. The former fourth-round selection out of Oklahoma is the kind of player Washington Commanders fans hope John Bates will develop into, and it wouldn’t be bad to have the veteran on hand to act as an example for someone entering a make-or-break campaign in 2023.

The aforementioned Bell is coming off an injury-plagued season and though he is fully healthy now, he might be the player to lose out in the highly competitive Kansas City tight ends competition. Looking at their current depth chart behind All-World outlet Travis Kelce, it's pretty stacked compared to most around the league.

This scenario would give Washington two veterans in Bell and Logan Thomas, along with two younger players, in Bates and Cole Turner. That wouldn’t be so bad in the short term and gives Eric Bieniemy a chance for further creativity in pursuit of progression.
