Commanders could sign Tyler Huntley

Tyler Huntley is an interesting case. There is little chance he'll beat out newly crowned NFL MVP Lamar Jackson to a starting job in the coming years. He's also an unrestricted free agent, so there won't be a better time to branch out in the hope of securing starting involvement elsewhere.

Huntley's sample size has been small since entering the league four years ago. But there are enough physical intangibles to suggest he could become a productive presence under center with a little extra refinement.

The former Utah standout is exceptionally mobile in the pocket. When routes aren't developing as expected downfield, Huntley has no trouble getting out on the move and gaining significant yardage on the ground. This is normally a coveted trait associated with modern-day quarterbacks.

Nobody knows how good Huntley could or couldn't be right now. Sitting behind Jackson for so long hasn't helped, it's whether a team believes additional responsibilities would help him thrive further that represents the biggest conundrum.

The Washington Commanders could take a shot at Huntley to see what he's got. They might also have a grander plan in mind instead of gambling on his ability to excel in a potential starting role.

If the Baltimore Ravens cannot do enough to keep Huntley around, he'll generate more interest than most thanks to his potential. Whether that includes the Commanders when push comes to shove remains to be seen.
