Efe Obada - Commanders DL

Efe Obada is a hard guy to root against. The defensive lineman's journey to the NFL was nothing short of extraordinary. From being homeless on the streets of London to carving out a decent rotational role for himself is no mean accomplishment.

Obada is dependable and energetic, boasting proven credentials when it comes to making things happen when thrust into the lineup. His relationship with head coach Ron Rivera is well documented. Had the player not gone down with a devastating injury earlier this season, there's a chance the new coaching regime would have kept him around.

The Washington Commanders are not exactly blessed with quality pass-rushers. Trading Montez Sweat and Chase Young before the deadline was a necessary sacrifice as part of their future planning. Unfortunately for Rivera's defense, it completely evaporated their ability to cause havoc in opposing backfields.

The Nigeran-born Obada looked more capable than most before an unfortunate injury. Daron Payne rolled over on his teammate during an accidental collision that left him with a fractured leg and a long way back to full health.

As we all know, the NFL is a ruthless business. Obada's injury came at the worst possible time. It might seem harsh, but the complication is severe enough for the Commanders to move on without the popular figure when push comes to shove.
