The Washington Commanders are finally back in the win column. Head coach Dan Quinn led his team to the first triumph of his tenure. There are still things to figure out and adjustments to make. However, ending a nine-game losing run by getting one over on their divisional rivals was a sign things are heading in the right direction.

Things are far from perfect. The Commanders' red-zone offense failed to make this game comfortable after spurning several opportunities. Some defensive frailties remain, but they managed to get the job done when it counted. That was the most important thing above all else at this stage of their rebuild.

Quinn and his players have some tough tests upcoming, starting in Week 3 at the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. This victory over the New York Giants should increase their confidence. It was also fantastic to see some unheralded individuals stepping up and making a difference.

With this in mind, here are five surprising standouts from Washington's success at Northwest Stadium in Week 2.

Surprising standouts from the Commanders' win vs. NY Giants in Week 2

Tyler Biadasz - Commanders C

If the Washington Commanders wanted to stand any chance of beating the New York Giants, they had to win in the trenches. Specifically, keeping their defensive front and All-Pro nose tackle Dexter Lawrence II quiet.

That was the primary objective of Tyler Biadasz heading into the clash. The new center made a strong impression in Week 1. It wasn't perfect against an elite-level performer such as Lawrence, but it was enough to limit his influence in crucial moments.

The offensive line gave up five sacks and suffered discipline issues in the red zone. However, Biadasz emerged as the team's standout performer on the protection thanks in no small part to his relentless efforts against Lawrence.

This was another fine example of the credentials Biadasz brings to the table. He already looks like an immediate upgrade on anything the Commanders have churned out at the spot since Chase Roullier's injury struggles began. The veteran won't face many bigger challenges this season, so coming out on the other end with credit is a solid foundation from which to build.
