Commanders must identify Nolan Smith pre-snap
Nolan Smith isn't a starter. But the hybrid linebacker/edge-rusher is a useful member of the pressure packages designed by Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator Sean Desai.
Smith showcased his timing, speed around the corner, and ability to finish with violence on this sack of Tua Tagovailoa against the Miami Dolphins.

Sacking Tagovailoa wasn't Smith's only contribution. He also registered another quarterback hit, to go with a pressure and a tackle for loss from just four snaps, per Pro Football Reference.
The former Georgia standout is fast becoming a dangerous situational and sub-package playmaker. He's somebody Howell needs to identify pre-snap and adjust blocking schemes to help contain.
There'll be different challenges for Washington Commanders' perennially underachieving defense to deal with. These include a productive change-of-pace running back.
