Commanders could trade Jamin Davis

Jamin Davis is making the transition to an edge rusher this offseason. It's not been smooth sailing, but there's been some encouraging progress made over the last two weeks. That's a promising development, but no more than that.

The fact Davis was playing deep into the Washington Commanders' final preseason game against the New England Patriots is a telling sign of his precarious situation. Some still believe the former first-round selection is on the roster bubble. However, an injury to rookie linebacker Jordan Magee could improve his hopes of involvement under the new regime.

Parting ways with Davis by outright releasing him doesn't make much sense. If general manager Adam Peters started shopping the Kentucky product around and got an acceptable trade offer, it's a different story.

Regardless of whether Davis gets a reprieve or not, this is a critical season upcoming for the player. A monumental effort is needed to secure a new deal after the Commanders declined his fifth-year option. In truth, it could legitimately go either way.

Commanders could trade for Brandon Aiyuk

Jahan Dotson's trade to the Philadelphia Eagles immediately brought speculation that general manager Adam Peters had something else up his sleeve. Specifically, another attempt to lure wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Commanders and reunite him with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels and Aiyuk are close friends - a bond formed during their time together at Arizona State. Peters called the San Francisco 49ers with an inquiry earlier this offseason. Their asking price - which was reportedly picks and wide receiver Terry McLaurin - was rightfully refused.

Aiyuk's contract stalemate with the Niners remains unresolved. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a package in place, but the wideout remains reluctant. Perhaps he is waiting for the Commanders to swoop in at the 11th hour with an offer San Francisco can't turn down. Who knows at this juncture?

This still seems unlikely given the front-office figure's desire to build through the draft and supplement remaining needs in free agency. But Peters' aggressive roster building coupled with the player's current status means it cannot be completely dismissed.
