Commanders could trade Emmanuel Forbes Jr.

It's been a rollercoaster offseason for Emmanuel Forbes Jr. It looked for a long time as if major improvements were arriving under the improved teachings of head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. However, the inconsistencies that blighted his first year in a professional environment haven't gone away.

The Washington Commanders have no sentimental attachment to Forbes under Adam Peters' leadership. Some have questioned whether the former first-round selection fits into the team's new long-term vision. There are so many unknowns for a player of which much was expected when he was taken No. 16 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Washington could add another dependable cornerback before Week 1 depending on which players become available. That would push Forbes further down the pecking order, so a situation could emerge where the Commanders cut their losses and attempt to get something back in return.

That's a drastic measure and doesn't make financial sense. It would be a bombshell of epic proportions if Forbes was traded, but that might not be the case for much longer if the necessary improvements don't arrive in 2024.

Commanders could trade Darrick Forrest

The Commanders have some tough choices to make in the safety room. Several players have shone throughout the offseason. Tyler Owens rose from proverbial obscurity to cement a roster spot, which completely shifted the landscape within the unit.

Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin are the confirmed starting tandem. Owens has the potential to play a key role in the rotation. All hope is not lost with Percy Butler. Jeremy Reaves' special teams prowess might be enough to get another go-around after signing a new deal this offseason.

The odd man out could be sixth-round pick Dominique Hampton, but there's no telling for sure. Darrick Forrest is another who fell down the pecking order thanks to Chinn's arrival. He'd be arguably the one with the most trade value given his previous experience and proven production.

Forrest looked destined for great things in 2023 before an injury ended his campaign after just five games. He's a useful backup option if things don't work out with Chinn or Martin on the backend. But if a suitable offer arrived, general manager Adam Peters would be foolish not to consider it with so many other dependable pieces on the squad.
