 Commanders could sign Patrick Queen

Only Jamin Davis should be considered as a starting linebacker next season. Much has been made about how the former first-round pick is best suited. The Washington Commanders could place him permanently on the interior. Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. might also take this opportunity to use him more as an edge presence within their dynamic scheme.

Regardless of where Davis suits up, the Commanders need a true enforcer in the middle of their defensive second level. The position was almost completely ignored by Ron Rivera throughout his tenure. Jack Del Rio preferred two-linebacker sets. That won't be happening under the new regime.

If Patrick Queen becomes available, it seems like a no-brainer. The former second-round pick formed a devastating tandem with Roquan Smith on the Baltimore Ravens last season. While keeping this continuity would be beneficial for the Super Bowl hopefuls, they only have $5.13 million in available cap space as it stands.

Queen is a force against the run as a sideline-to-sideline presence with outstanding instincts. He's also improving from a coverage standpoint. This only makes him more appealing heading into free agency.

Having Queen on board would provide the Commanders with a legitimate anchor and supreme communicator on defense. He is a rare player who gets the job done individually and also has a real gift for making those around him better.
