Commanders could sign Jaylon Johnson

  • Cornerback | Chicago Bears

Kendall Fuller is a free agent entering the spring. The veteran cornerback performed well while all around him crumbled last season under Jack Del Rio and Ron Rivera. There's a chance the Washington Commanders could keep him around, but he could take this opportunity to seek alternative employment in an organization with a more promising chance of being a contender before his powers wane.

Even if Fuller is kept around, it might be worth the Commanders adding to their cornerback options. Emmanuel Forbes needs a huge offseason after underwhelming as a rookie. Benjamin St-Juste gave up way too many big plays to be considered a consistent coverage presence on the outside.

Jaylon Johnson is one of the better veterans set to hit the market. His production with the Chicago Bears remains high. There seems to be a difference in the organization's perceived value of the player and what his representatives want. This led to the former second-round selection handing in a trade request before the deadline.

This is a player worth monitoring if you're Adam Peters. The Commanders cannot afford the same failings within the secondary under Dan Quinn. He prides himself on being opportunistic in the passing game. Acquiring a Pro Bowl performer who gave up an exceptional 50.9 passer rating when targeted would go a long way to achieving these objectives.
