What dream free-agent targets could the Washington Commanders pursue in their quest to be more competitive under the new regime?

The Washington Commanders have set themselves up well to be impact players throughout the offseason. They have a plethora of high-end draft picks - including the No. 2 overall selection. Those in power also have the league's most salary-cap space to spend in free agency if the right opportunities come along.

Adam Peters wants to build through the draft and supplement through free agency. There are a lot of holes to fill after another troubling campaign. Not every pick from the college ranks is going to work out. That's why acquiring veterans capable of assisting immediately should also be prioritized.

This is not going to happen overnight. However, with new ownership and a better structure in place, the Commanders are a more attractive destination as a storied franchise with renewed ambition than ever before.

With this in mind, here are five dream free-agent possibilities the Commanders could sign in 2024.

Commanders could sign Kevin Dotson

  • Offensive Line | Los Angeles Rams

The Washington Commanders are in desperate need of help along the offensive line. Sam Cosmi looks to be the only guaranteed starter after his exceptional transition from the edge to right guard. After Ron Rivera failed to identify this critical area of production as a priority, Adam Peters must not make the same mistake during his first offseason as the team's new front-office leader.

Kevin Dotson could be exactly the sort of player to reinforce the interior alongside Cosmi. His trade to the Los Angeles Rams went better than many anticipated. The former fourth-round selection out of Lousiana gave up four sacks and conceded two penalties from 881 snaps. This earned him an exceptional 85.2 grade from Pro Football Focus as a result of his efforts.

Much will depend on the money involved, but Dotson would be a tremendous addition to Washington's protection. Something that could help their incoming rookie quarterback significantly for good measure.
