5 critical observations from Commanders 2024 training camp Day 9

Emmanuel Forbes Jr. continues to grow
The margin for error is gone for Emmanuel Forbes Jr. His lackluster production throughout a disastrous rookie campaign dictated as much, but the early signs are incredibly promising under the expert guidance of Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr.
Forbes is being challenged every day. He's been coached up effectively and seems to have benefitted from adding 17 pounds throughout the offseason. There are the odd lapses - especially when going up against Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin - but one cannot be anything other than impressed by the way he's coming along under improved coaching.
The former Mississippi State star came alive once again on Day 9 of training camp according to those in attendance. Forbes looked the part in coverage, with his big pass deflection from a deep shot intended for wideout Dyami Brown among the session's biggest highlights.
This is another positive step for Forbes. Stacking days, building back confidence, and removing his game of the critical flaws that blighted his rookie year were his primary objectives throughout Washington's training camp. There's a long way to go and watching the defensive back in a competitive setting will be the biggest measuring stick, but it's so far, so good.
Whether Forbes can keep this up is the big conundrum right now. He's in the best possible environment to grow. Going up against one of the league's most prolific wideouts in McLaurin will only refine his craft. At the same time, anything less than an imposing start to the campaign is going to come with huge ramifications attached.
Forbes is getting his swagger back. He's never wavered in his belief despite things not going according to plan last season. His development was mismanaged by Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio - something that's provided the player with an extra source of motivation to silence his increasing doubters this summer.
Long may it continue.
