Dan Quinn is forming the correct foundations for success at training camp. The positivity throughout the Washington Commanders is evident and increasing daily. That won't be enough to guarantee progress when competitive games begin, but it's not a bad place to start by any stretch of the imagination.

The Commanders are already eight sessions into camp. It's going past quickly heading into joint practices and an important preseason slate. Urgency is evident as things get more physical and chances to impress decrease. Some players won't be along for the ride, so ensuring competition remains high is only going to help make everyone better.

Adam Peters was in attendance once again and is keeping a close eye on how things are unfolding. The general manager has enough spare resources to acquire more assets if he feels like more is needed. However, things are shaping up nicely with Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the not-too-distant horizon.

With that being said, here are five critical observations from Day 8 of Washington's training camp practice in Ashburn.

Critical observations from Day 8 of Commanders 2024 training camp

Mitchell Tinsley makes a splash

The Washington Commanders had no choice other than to give Mitchell Tinsley a roster spot last summer. He worked his way into a well-deserved place following an exceptional training camp. The wide receiver has got more to prove with a new regime to impress, so more of the same is needed this time around.

Washington's wideout room is crowded, which doesn't help. Tinsley's got to overcome adversity all over again - a challenge he tackling with his customary determination and high-level work rate.

There is a lot to like about Tinsley's improved explosiveness off the line of scrimmage and sharper route running. Something the former undrafted free agent out of Penn State put on display during a 1-on-1 drill versus Kyu Blu Kelly that left the cornerback in knots.

Tinsley is building confidence heading into Washington's preseason schedule. Maximizing targets when they arrive in a game-day environment and finding a role on special teams might be enough to make the team for a second straight year.
