Commanders QB Jayden Daniels' best day

Jayden Daniels has caught the eye on countless occasions during his first offseason with the Washington Commanders. The quarterback adjusted seamlessly from college to the pros, winning over everyone associated with the organization in double-quick time despite some monumental pressure on his shoulders.

Daniels is still working out some kinks before Week 1. He's improving the chemistry and timing with his primary pass-catchers. There are still issues, but nobody should be expecting perfection at this stage of the preparation period.

The former LSU star turned on the style on Day 6. Daniels was nothing short of sensational according to those in attendance. There were some high-caliber throws and his typical poise under center. Aside from one botched handoff on a running play, the signal-caller was practically flawless.

Dan Quinn is persisting with a quarterback 'competition' between Daniels and veteran free-agent signing Marcus Mariota. This is just to ensure everything is earned, not given. In terms of a battle, it's pretty one-sided looking at how things have unfolded up to now.

Daniels' progress isn't going unnoticed by his teammates. Jahan Dotson spoke about how he's been discussing his superb distribution during practice with Terry McLaurin. The duo senses their new man under center will get the football to the right spots if they're open. That reassurance is something they haven't had for the most part since joining the Commanders.

Tempering expectations initially would be wise. Daniels is going to go through some growing pains during the regular season - most rookie quarterbacks do. But it's hard to look at the way he's transitioned and not think he's going to be a game-changer for the Commanders.

Just how long that'll take remains to be seen. A few more practices like this will only raise short-term expectancy. At the same time, the Heisman Trophy winner cannot do it alone.

It's so far, so good for Daniels. This session was his best one yet.
