5 critical observations from Commanders 2024 training camp Day 6
By Dean Jones
Intensity is building as the Washington Commanders navigate their way through what's been a fascinating training camp so far.
Dan Quinn and his staff have a good indication of each player's capabilities at this stage. Plans are beginning to take shape. Time is running out for those looking to rise from obscurity into roster positions.
We're approaching the point where attention begins turning to the preseason and what that dynamic will look like. However, the Commanders don't have the luxury of looking too far ahead. Taking things one day at a time and focusing on gradual improvements is the only way this new regime is going to get off on the right foot.
Fortunately for the Commanders, their head coach has a plan and everybody is on board fully. With that being said, here are five critical observations from Day 6 of Washington's training camp in 2024.

Commanders running back dynamic
It's guaranteed that Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. will be the two prominent running backs for the Washington Commanders in 2024. This has the makings of a potent tandem if both stay clear of injuries and the offensive line meets their end of the bargain. Something that will also make things more comfortable for quarterback Jayden Daniels during his pivotal first season in the pros.
After that, it's getting increasingly interesting.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. was seen as the No.3 running back coming into camp after flashing as a rookie. That might still be the case - especially after his showing when the pads went on during Day 5. However, others are also working exceptionally hard to get noticed in pursuit of earning a place on the 53-man roster.
Jeremy McNichols and Michael Wiley both impressed throughout Tuesday's session based on the musings of those in attendance. Whether it changes much in the grand scheme of things is debatable. Much will also depend on how those fighting for positions further down the depth chart perform with the preseason lights glaring.
