Sam Hartman's impressive cameo

Being an undrafted free agent is a difficult task. They must fight their way from the bottom up, and even that might not be enough to make the team. Sam Hartman has an especially tough challenge considering the Washington Commanders signed veteran Marcus Mariota in free agency and took Jayden Daniels at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Hartman is looking to potentially become the No. 3 quarterback if the Commanders decide to take that many onto their 53-man roster. If not, then a practice squad spot or embarking on his UFL journey is the likely scenario.

The former Wake Forest and Notre Dame star caught the eye in a brief cameo during scrimmages according to those in attendance. Hartman's throw to Olamide Zaccheaus was expertly brought in by the wide receiver for one of the day's notable highlights.

Whether this moves the needle much for Hartman is debatable. There is a long road ahead, but his fortunes will likely be determined by how he fares when the time for preseason involvement arrives.
