Commanders playmakers on offense shine

Things seem to be clicking nicely on offense. Jayden Daniels looks the part under center and the playmakers around him are responding accordingly. There will be bigger tests ahead, but all signs are pointing up so far.

The Washington Commanders put together another impressive session offensively on Day 13 of training camp according to those in attendance. Terry McLaurin, rookie third-rounder Luke McCaffrey, Jahan Dotson, Olamide Zaccheaus, and veteran tight end Zach Ertz all shone during the practice. Brycen Tremayne continued his contested catch streak with another impressive grab as the former undrafted free agent out of Stanford looks to force his way onto the 53-man roster.

Although this is just practice, one cannot be anything other than encouraged by the way things are progressing. Chemistry is coming along nicely and Kliff Kingsbury's schematic concepts are maximizing each player's skill set. Getting it done in a competitive setting will be much tougher, but the Commanders have the tools capable of making some noise.

Washington's offensive line is the big question mark. If they hold up their end of the bargain, the Commanders might be a surprise some opposing defenses don't see coming in 2024.

Commanders kicking competition isn't over

To make room for wide receiver Martavis Bryant, the Commanders parted ways with Ramiz Ahmed. The kicker struggled to fully impose himself after Brandon McManus' release. Riley Patterson's introduction hasn't been flawless, but those in power believe he deserves more reps rather than going through another week with two options.

Patterson will get a prolonged audition in the coming days. However, his status on the 53-man roster is not confirmed by any stretch despite being the only kicker around right now.

Dan Quinn stated this is going to be an ongoing evaluation. The head coach was quick to point out that Patterson's job isn't locked in. If his production doesn't improve and the Commanders can find a better option at some stage before Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, general manager Adam Peters won't hesitate to pull the trigger.

Looking at how things have unfolded for Patterson since he was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Commanders' starting kicker to begin the regular season isn't on the team right now. Patterson must alter perceptions quickly for an extended stay.
