Chris Rodriguez Jr. - Commanders RB

The Washington Commanders have their top two running backs locked up. Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler have the potential to be a prolific tandem capable of great things within offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury's schematic concepts. The veteran and the potential breakout star can spearhead a renaissance working alongside rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Washington will take more running backs onto the roster. The No. 3 spot seemed like Chris Rodriguez Jr.'s to lose. That might still be the case after his impressive contribution when called upon as a rookie. However, he's officially looking over his shoulder after the opening few days of training camp.

Jeremy McNichols and Michael Wiley have been catching the eye consistently according to those in attendance. This lays down the gauntlet to Rodriguez, who's also had some nice moments himself. The 2023 sixth-round selection's production during the first padded practice, in particular, was especially pleasing.

Rodriguez's third running back isn't the sure thing it appeared once upon a time. He's lost ground to a certain extent, but the former Kentucky star is more than capable of cementing his status.

Braeden Daniels - Commanders OL

Braeden Daniels ensured a rough start to his NFL journey. He was another college offensive tackle projected as better suited to the guard position that Ron Rivera fell in love with. This is something that became synonymous with his difficult four-year tenure and the head coach eventually paid with his job.

Daniels got a baptism of fire last summer and spent the campaign on injured reserve with a torn bicep. He's hoping it won't be out of sight, out of mind under the new regime.

According to those in attendance, Daniels has been spending his time solely on the interior. If he's going to make the team, it'll be as a guard. The problem centers on a lack of familiarity with the position and being out for so long before getting the all-clear to resume football activities this offseason.

The Commanders upgraded their offensive line interior throughout a frantic recruitment period under general manager Adam Peters. That makes it even more challenging for Daniels, although a place on the practice squad to continue his development couldn't be dismissed if he clears waivers.
