Dyami Brown - Commanders WR

Do you remember a couple of months ago when Dyami Brown was the subject of trade talks? You don’t hear that anymore.

Brown has been a minor disappointment since being drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The situation may not have been dire due to the emergence of other receivers, but this is shaping up to make-or-break year for the wide receiver.

The hope has been that a reunion with his college quarterback – Sam Howell – would kickstart Brown’s pro career. Though it’s way too early to say for sure, there are signs that this is happening.

For one thing, Brown is being targeted a lot more. Against the Baltimore Ravens, only Jahan Dotson was targeted more by the Washington Commanders.

The fact that he only caught two of the six balls thrown his way is mildly disturbing. But it is overshadowed by the marvelous play Brown made to score the touchdown that put the Commanders in the lead just before halftime - beating double-coverage and making an excellent leaping catch for six points.

Brown showed flashes like this last season as well and never built on them. The two players he beat on Monday are not likely to be on the Ravens' final roster, so we don’t want to overstate his case. But this is why the former North Carolina star is on the team – because he can make big plays.

With Dotson, Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Byron Pringle, Brown doesn’t have to do this very often in order to become a potent option in the receiving corps.
