5 Commanders players who could get demoted during 2024 training camp
By Dean Jones
After a long, dramatic offseason, football is back. The Washington Commanders are together for the start of training camp. This is the most important phase of their preparations in the team's quest to make drastic improvements during the first campaign under Dan Quinn and his exceptional coaching staff.
The Commanders are in a much better place now compared to how things looked this time last year. Everything is different. Everything is more positive. Everything is looking up after fans had to endure countless failures under previous owner Dan Snyder.
Adam Peters is an aggressive roster builder. He's got the financial means to make further improvements if the right opportunities come along. Everyone who survived his initial cull is going to get a fair shot at establishing themselves. Making the most of it will be crucial to cement their statuses or rise from nowhere into prominent positions.
Of course, it could easily go the other way. With this in mind, here are five Commanders players who could be demoted at some stage during the team's training camp.
Dyami Brown - Commanders WR
- Current status: WR No. 4
Dyami Brown is getting another opportunity to showcase his skills. Not many thought this would happen after another anonymous campaign in 2023 despite having his old college quarterback Sam Howell under center. However, the coaching staff wanted to see what he could bring before taking any further action.
Brown has the speed to become a vertical threat if he inspires confidence. The North Carolina product needs to develop the right chemistry downfield with Jayden Daniels to achieve this objective. Something that must occur over Washington's upcoming camp to confirm his roster status.
Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and third-round selection Luke McCaffrey are ahead of Brown on the wide receiver depth chart as it stands. If his inconsistent production continues, someone else will be more than willing to take his place.
It's a high-stakes situation for Brown. The margin for error evaporated long ago, so it'll be a huge test of the player's character in the weeks ahead.
