All eyes are on the 2024 NFL Draft, which promises to be a monumentally important one for the Washington Commanders. It's been a memorable campaign so far with vast changes across the board. If general manager Adam Peters can make the right picks, the franchise will be in a good spot to make strides next season with new head coach Dan Quinn leading the charge.
The Commanders are in a better position than most. They have six selections in the top 100 and nine in total. This is projected to be a top-heavy class that drops off after the first three rounds - something that didn't go unnoticed by those in power looking at the transactions and trades made during and after the 2023 campaign.
This is an exciting time for fans. For some already on the roster, it'll be a nervous wait to see what additional competition arrives in their specific position group. For others, it could seal their fate when it's all said and done.
With this in mind, here are five Commanders players who could become cut candidates after the 2024 NFL Draft.
Benning Potoa'e - Commanders DL
The Washington Commanders stood firm on their defensive line interior this offseason. However, that shouldn't prevent Adam Peters from identifying another talented prospect at some stage during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne are cemented as the starting defensive tackle tandem. There's hope John Ridgeway and Phidarian Mathis can make additional strides with improved coaching. Efe Obada is also back, who could be a useful three-technique rotational option in obvious pass-rushing situations provided he returns from a broken leg with no lingering effects.
Aside from that, the cupboard is relatively bare. Benning Potoa'e switched between the active roster and the practice squad last season. He didn't show enough to suggest his head won't be on the chopping block if Peters uses one of his nine picks on an interior force capable of making an immediate impression.
