Jayden Daniels gains 650 rushing yards

The Washington Commanders are banking on Jayden Daniels excelling as a pocket passer during his time with the franchise. That's well within his capabilities, but what set him apart from other first-round quarterbacks was his incredible ability to gain yards on the ground.

Daniels showcased this to full effect at LSU, gaining 2,019 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns in two seasons. His 6.3 yards per carry average is another indicator of how special he can be with the football in his hands.

The Commanders won't be expecting those sorts of numbers. Daniels will likely be running a lot less in the pros, but taking away his ability to improvise when things aren't developing as expected wouldn't be wise either.

There needs to be a happy medium. Picking and choosing spots is crucial. If Daniels can gain 650 rushing yards - which equates to 38.23 yards per game - would be a good start for the rookie signal-caller. It should also keep defenses honest as the Commanders look to make significant strides under offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in 2024.

Jayden Daniels wins Offensive Rookie of the Year

Jayden Daniels looks like a superstar. He carries himself like a franchise quarterback through quiet charisma and fierce inner drive. His exceptional transition during Washington's offseason program raised expectations considerably, but there's nothing to suggest he isn't capable of reaching such heights.

Daniels is among the frontrunners for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 and rightfully so. Caleb Williams is the favorite among sportsbooks and the plethora of wide receiver talent will also fancy their chances of scooping the prestigious individual honor. However, this is a goal the Heisman Trophy winner will be aiming for in no uncertain terms.

Quarterbacks are in the spotlight more than most. Daniels' first task is to get the Commanders trending in a positive direction following years of abject misery. After that, the dual-threat weapon should bolster his hopes of coming away with the crown.

Outperforming Williams, who has a much more accomplished supporting cast with the Chicago Bears on paper, is the biggest obstacle. If Daniels can accomplish this, an award-winning campaign won't be far behind in Year 1 of his professional career.
