4 underrated Commanders players who could make a massive impact in 2024

Quan Martin - Commanders DB
When the Washington Commanders used their second-round pick on Quan Martin, more than a few eyebrows were raised. Ron Rivera had just utilized his first-rounder on cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. Adding another defensive back when there were several immediate upgrades for the offensive line available came with expected criticism.
Forbes went through serious complications as a rookie. The Commanders placed too much pressure on the player right out of the gate. They were more patient with Martin, which seemed to be the best course of action.
Martin took time to get going. When he did earn prominent reps, there was a lot to like about his production as a big nickel cornerback who could occupy the safety position when called upon. One could easily argue that he looked more accomplished than Forbes, although all hope is not lost with the former Mississippi State star just yet.
The Commanders opted to let Kamren Curl and Kendall Fuller walk in free agency. They've done little to strengthen their secondary this offseason. While there is still time, it could end up being a supreme vote of confidence in Martin's potential to take another leap forward in 2024.
The talent is obvious with Martin. He also has some shrewd defensive minds such as Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. steering him in the right direction. Something that only adds to the optimism heading into his NFL sophomore season.
