Commanders could need a TE

Considering the high-profile arrival of Eric Bieniemy and how prolific tight ends were as part of his offensive system with the Kansas City Chiefs, it's been surprising to see the Washington Commanders completely ignore strengthening this particular position group. However, it could also be a sign that the offensive coordinator feels they have enough on the books currently.

Logan Thomas is the established veteran, but his position as the No. 1 option is far from guaranteed. There are a number of hungry young bucks looking to make a bigger impact under Bieniemy's expert guidance, which will be one of the most fascinating things to monitor throughout the preparation period.

John Bates is seen more as a blocking expert, but that might change if Bieniemy sees fit. There's also a lot to like about Armani Rogers' potential for growth after flashing late in the 2022 campaign.

After a frustrating first season in Washington, watching how Cole Turner establishes himself is another interesting dynamic. The pass-catching asset enjoyed a standout college career at Nevada, so earning targets when fully healthy cannot be ruled out if there are no more complications on the health front.

If nobody steps up and production remains inconsistent, then drafting a tight end in 2024 is essential. Depending on how Sam Howell performs, Georgia's phenom Brock Bowers could be priority No. 1.
