Commanders could sign Kareem Hunt
Our talented writer Jonathan Eig recently highlighted the need for the Washington Commanders to add a different dimension to their running back attack. Someone with more explosiveness and burst could be exactly what play-caller Eric Bieniemy to give his offense another big shot in the arm.
Brian Robinson Jr. played well in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. Chris Rodriguez Jr. also got some work, but the less-than-stellar display of Antonio Gibson means he could move out of favor quickly if the same trend continues. If Bieniemy wants to bring in someone familiar with proven credentials, then Kareem Hunt could be the guy.
Hunt enjoyed the best season of his professional career under Bieniemy's exceptional guidance when they were together on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Washington Commanders brought the backfield threat in for a visit earlier this offseason, but there are obvious benefits to getting him on board for the current campaign.
This would provide the Commanders with another genuine weapon that can take it to the house at any given opportunity. While the explosiveness might not be what it once was, Bieniemy wouldn't be tasking the veteran with lead-back responsibilities thanks to Robinson's presence.
Utilizing Hunt as a situational force and an asset in the passing game might be an upgrade on what Gibson brings to the table. Although giving up on the Memphis product after one indifferent outing to begin the campaign does seem harsh.
