Chase Roullier - Former Commanders C

When the Washington Commanders signed Nick Gates in free agency and spent their third-round selection on Ricky Stromberg during the 2023 NFL Draft, the writing was on the wall for Chase Roullier. The veteran center dealt with some torrid injury luck over the last two years, which was something those in power could no longer rely upon considering the money on his deal.

The Commanders released Roullier with a post-June 1 designation, which came with some substantial savings. It also allows Washington an opportunity to move forward with Gates as their starting option and gives Stromberg the freedom to develop at his own pace.

Roullier is a top-level performer when fit, even if this is no guarantee these days. However, one could have forgiven the former sixth-round selection out of Wyoming for thinking an immediate opportunity would have been forthcoming.

The offensive lineman is relatively early into his own free agency compared to the rest on this list. So all hope is not lost despite teams taking a cautious approach thanks in no small part to his medical history.

The Commanders got more than they bargained for with Roullier. And he's sure to be an asset wherever he ends up next.
