Commanders could sign Rasheem Green

Finding dependable edge rushers was high on Adam Peters' list of priorities this offseason. The Washington Commanders traded Montez Sweat and Chase Young within a few hours of each other before the 2023 deadline. It gave them much-needed draft capital to enhance their rebuild, but it negated any consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks over the second half of the campaign.

Dorance Armstrong Jr., Clelin Ferrell, and Dante Fowler Jr. should assist in some capacity. If K.J. Henry builds on a promising rookie campaign, it'll be another boost for a group that must come through when it counts next season.

There's still time for Peters to make another addition if the situation dictates. This will likely depend on how he views fringe players such as Andre Jones Jr. But much like the situation at wide receiver, no team can ever have enough options capable of wreaking havoc in opposing backfields.

Rasheem Green seems like a decent rotational piece who could be available at a bargain price heading into Washington's training camp. He's been a productive depth option during his various stops around the league without ever doing enough to cement a starting place elsewhere. He's also got the size and versatility to fit seamlessly within Dan Quinn's creative defensive schematics.

The Commanders might roll with what they have, especially considering Jamin Davis looks set to spend more time on the edge following the high-profile signings of Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner. If not, someone like Green makes a ton of sense.

This would be nothing more than a short-term arrangement. It's a method Peters has adopted across the roster aside from a select few who got long-term commitments from the Commanders. The general manager wanted to increase urgency and ensure nobody took their spot for granted. Signing Green would raise the stakes further.

If the Commanders look to acquire another edge presence before camp or Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former third-round pick out of USC could be the guy.
