4 Commanders players whose fate is sealed after Dan Quinn hire

David Mayo - Commanders LB
Another area that didn't receive the necessary attention during Ron Rivera's tenure was the linebacking corps. He did spend a first-round pick on Jamin Davis - although one could argue he played him out of position for the most part. Aside from that, it's clear more should have been done.
The Washington Commanders appointed one of the soundest defensive minds around in Dan Quinn. He won't be ignoring the position group, especially considering how his success with the Dallas Cowboys was predicated on strong linebacker production.
Davis should be guaranteed starting involvement, but that's about it. After being a close associate of Ron Rivera's throughout his playing career, it seems as if David Mayo's time with the Commanders could be coming to an end.
While Mayo is a solid special teams performer, he lacks the explosiveness or coverage capabilities to become a reliable presence on the defensive rotation. The Commanders were forced to give him decent reps following Cody Barton's injury. Aside from a few brief flashes, it was nowhere near good enough overall.
Quinn and Adam Peters have some difficult decisions to make regarding their roster this offseason. Letting Mayo take his chances elsewhere isn't one of them. Fans can also expect a few new faces to go alongside Davis at the defensive second level, perhaps through a veteran free agent and an exciting college prospect with upside.
