4 Commanders players under pressure to perform in Preseason Week 2 vs. the Ravens

Curtis Hodges - Commanders TE
Logan Thomas is being treated with extreme caution after the veteran tight end suffered a calf issue during camp. The Washington Commanders don't want their primary weapon at the position missing regular season time, although that's a distinct possibility looking at the converted quarterback's current career trajectory in recent years.
John Bates and Cole Turner have done a nice job in Thomas' absence. This bears special significance for the former Nevada standout, who's making a strong case for prominent targets after displaying crisp route-running and assured hands throughout the preparation period.
This raises the stakes for Curtis Hodges to stand up and give the coaching staff something to think about. There's a chance the Commanders take four tight ends through onto their 53-man roster, but he looks to be the odd man out if Ron Rivera opts for three to begin the campaign.
Hodges is a physical specimen with dynamic traits that cannot be taught. Putting it all together has been difficult for the player so far, with nagging injuries also hindering his overall development significantly since joining the Commanders as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State.
It might be worth throwing a few targets in Hodges' direction against the Baltimore Ravens and seeing how he fares. How the player gets on could be the difference between winning a roster spot or being a potential practice squad candidate.
