The competition for places is heating up lower down the wide receiver depth chart. Only one or two spots are seemingly up for grabs looking at how things stand currently, which makes the next two preseason games extremely important for Ron Rivera and his staff in terms of evaluations.

A big play here or there could make a big difference. It might even be the deciding factor between roster positions, practice squad places, or players beings cast aside entirely when it's all said and done.

One player whose fortunes could go either way right now is Dax Milne. The former BYU star is competing with the likes of Kazmeir Allen to be the Washington Commanders' kick returner next season and is also looking to make more of an impact within Eric Bieniemy's creative offensive system providing he impresses enough.

This will be a fine-line decision whichever way it goes. There is clearly an enormous sense of intrigue surrounding Allen and what such a dynamic weapon could accomplish for the Commanders, but Milne has the dependability and cemented chemistry with his teammates that cannot be ignored.

Monday's game is the penultimate audition for Milne and others to prove they belong. This will also tell us plenty about the player's character and resolve with an upstart or two breathing down his neck.
