4 Commanders players whose stock has fallen ahead of 2023 training camp

Jacoby Brissett - Commanders QB
When the Washington Commanders picked up veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett in free agency, he was seen as a solid placeholder that could end up starting if Sam Howell doesn't meet his end of the bargain. The player also believed he had a good shot at winning the No. 1 job after performing well for the Cleveland Browns last season.
While there's been nothing drastically wrong with Brissett's performances during early offseason workouts, the chances of him dethroning Howell appear bleak despite what head coach Ron Rivera might tell you. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the former fifth-round pick is winning this particular competition comfortably according to sources, and has the full support of players and coaches alike.
That might be considered a blow for Brissett, but he won't be going down without a fight. In the event he becomes Washington's confirmed backup option, his role as a mentor for Howell will be an important one.
Of course, there's no telling for sure how this bold move by Rivera will go. If Howell doesn't pan out, the Commanders can go to a dependable presence in Brissett who's already proven capable of being an efficient game manager under center.
All hope is not lost for Brissett and we'll know more when the pads go on at training camp. But based on what we've seen so far, it would be a bombshell if he was manning the plate in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.
