Chase Young - Commanders DE

The spotlight will be glaring on Chase Young from the moment he steps onto the practice field at training camp. It's been a while since the defensive end's been in peak physical condition, but all signs point to that being the case if his recent workout videos on social media paint a realistic picture.

Young looks highly motivated to silence some increasing doubters. The Washington Commanders didn't pick up his fifth-year option after 12 games and 1.5 sacks over the last two seasons, but Ron Rivera hasn't given up on the edge presence reaching his lofty ceiling providing there are no further concerns from a health perspective.

This has the scope to give the Commanders a financial headache with Young and fellow defensive end Montez Sweat both out of contract in 2024. But if the former Ohio State star does put a solid run of games together, then Washington's defensive front instantly becomes the best in football.

It's a fine line with Young and the Commanders will likely take the cautious approach during camp. However, the need to make a good impression and alleviate concerns is there for all to see.

Young's physique, athleticism, and added sense of motivation are reasons enough for confidence. If things don't go according to plan for whatever reason, a situation could emerge where the Commanders become more receptive to trade offers either before the season or ahead of the 2023 deadline.
