Antonio Gibson - Commanders RB

One might not class Antonio Gibson as a starter thanks to the emergence of rookie sensation Brian Robinson Jr. However, the running back was set to play a key role within Eric Bieniemy's new offense in 2023.

That could still be true given Gibson's experience and playmaking ability, but the Washington Commanders have left nothing to chance. Considering what Bieniemy has planned for sixth-round selection Chris Rodriguez Jr., it's something to keep an eye on.

Gibson looks like the better talent and is someone Rodriguez looked up to during their high school days hailing from the same area. The Commanders need another body after releasing J.D. McKissic with a failed physical designation, with Bieniemy planning to build the 2023 sixth-rounder up into a primary pass-catcher based on Ron Rivera's comments recently.

While it would be shocking to see Rodriguez move above Gibson on the depth chart, it cannot be dismissed entirely. Especially considering the one-time Memphis standout is embarking on the final year of his deal.

Perhaps Rodriguez was acquired as a long-term replacement for Gibson looking at the bigger picture. But this should light a fire under the player before it's time for those in power to determine his future beyond the upcoming campaign.
