4 Commanders players fighting for their starting status after 2023 NFL Draft

Sam Cosmi - Commanders OL
It looked for a long time as if Sam Cosmi might be slotted into one of the starting offensive line positions next season. While that could be the case, his path is far from guaranteed after a flurry of activity throughout the offseason.
The free-agent signing of Andrew Wylie is set to improve the Washington Commanders at right tackle. Cosmi has the athleticism to switch to the interior, but the competition for places is now fierce following the arrivals of Braeden Daniels and Ricky Stromberg via the 2023 NFL Draft.
Both prospects were taken in the mid-rounds with the future in mind. However, especially in Stromberg's case, he has the skill set to potentially emerge into an interior starter much sooner than anticipated.
Whether that's at the center position or one of the guard spots remains to be seen. Even so, this should provide Cosmi with all the urgency he needs to make the improvements needed.
The former second-round pick out of Texas hasn't quite reached the levels expected so far. If Cosmi doesn't show enough with improved options in the offensive line room, the Commanders won't hesitate to go in a different direction.
