Which unheralded players are poised to push for roster positions as the Washington Commanders' preseason schedule draws closer?

NFL football is finally back. With the 2023 preseason schedule now underway, thousands of players will fight to prove their worth for coveted roster spots during the exhibition slate.

Players on the bubble must shine in the very limited opportunities they receive. Others must battle to keep their precarious positions secure as the yearly roster churn reaches a boiling point in the blistering heat of August.

With the Washington Commanders looking forward to their first preseason contest of 2023 at the Cleveland Browns this week, a number of roles remain up for grabs at the tail end of their reloaded roster.

Still, with question marks in critical positions all across the depth chart, Washington’s preseason schedule will sort out the contenders from the pretenders. These three exhibition games serve as a great chance for fringe players to improve their standing and solidify their situations going forward.

With key positional battles for jobs in the return game, the kicking game, on the offensive line, and in the backfield, the Commanders will have some tough decisions to make with plenty of healthy competition for the final spots on the 53-man roster.

Today we take a look at four Commanders players that could unexpectedly end up making this year’s squad with strong preseason performances over the next few weeks.
