4 Commanders players who could be nice surprises in 2024

Emmanuel Forbes - Commanders CB
Emmanuel Forbes' rookie campaign was an unmitigated disaster. Ron Rivera and other influential figures identified the cornerback as their top target relatively early in the pre-draft process. Despite Christian Gonzalez falling into their laps at No. 16 overall, they didn't waver en route to taking the Mississippi State product instead.
Forbes didn't come anywhere close to meeting expectations. He looked outmatched and undersized going up against legitimate No. 1 wide receivers at the next level. There was a lack of physicality in his tackling that raised further concerns. Even when he returned after being benched, his consistency left a lot to be desired.
The jury is still out on Forbes, but all hope is not lost just yet.
As previously mentioned, head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. have proven credentials when it comes to secondary development. They know how to maximize varied athletic attributes and fit them within their expansive scheme. The former first-round pick stands to benefit more than most if everything clicks throughout their 2024 season preparations.
With Kendall Fuller signing for the Miami Dolphins in free agency, the Commanders will be counting on Forbes to make the strides needed. If he works hard and embraces the enhanced coaching available, all signs point to a bounce-back campaign when competitive action resumes.
