4 Commanders living on borrowed time after free agency upheaval

Adam Peters had to make strengthening the team's edge rushing options among his more pressing objectives this offseason. The Washington Commanders had trouble generating any meaningful pressure on opposing quarterbacks after trading Montez Sweat and Chase Young before the deadline. This was also recognized by the new general manager, who acted swiftly and put head coach Dan Quinn's contacts to good use.
The Commanders brought Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong from the Dallas Cowboys. Clelin Ferrell joined the fold after a brief spell with Peters on the San Francisco 49ers. What Quinn has planned for Frankie Luvu is anyone's guess, but he can also be a pass-rushing force from the defensive second level when required.
If K.J. Henry builds on a promising rookie season and another edge rusher arrives at some stage during the draft, the Commanders will be in good shape. It's not good news for Andre Jones Jr. in pursuit of more involvement.
Jones was a seventh-round pick last season who worked hard to make the roster. He featured mostly on special teams in Year 1 of his professional career, but the Commanders have reinforced this area too with the likes of Anthony Pittman, James Pierre, and Noah Igbinoghene.
Jones has a hard road ahead to impress, but it's a challenge the former Louisiana star should relish.
