Logan Thomas - Commanders TE

Before we get started on this one, under no circumstances is Logan Thomas' place on the 53-man roster in jeopardy. The Washington Commanders placed a significant amount of faith in the veteran over the offseason and there was a lot to like about his camp production until a calf strain derailed the tight end's progress.

The Commanders are erring on the side of caution with Thomas currently. They know how important it'll be to keep him fit and firing next season, but recent history suggests expecting a full 17-game slate from the converted quarterback is an unlikely scenario.

That might not matter to the Commanders if Cole Turner keeps up his outstanding upturn this summer. The former fifth-round selection is looking to make up for some lost time as a rookie and made a good impression against the Cleveland Browns in pursuit of more involvement when competitive games begin.

Thomas is the No. 1 until further notice. However, he would be wise to keep a close eye on Turner's progress if he wants to keep this job during the season.

No matter how good Thomas looked at camp and how much he might improve with Eric Bieniemy calling plays, the best ability is availability. If the Virginia Tech product remains on the sidelines and Turner continues to thrive, a situation could emerge where he becomes the secondary option sooner rather than later.
