Commanders could trade for Brandon Aiyuk

The Washington Commanders could use another explosive wide receiver. Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson will be prominent features in Kliff Kingsbury's offense next season. After that, it's a relatively bare cupboard all things considered.

Dyami Brown looks like a cut candidate. The Commanders could also part ways with other veterans set to embark on free agency. This includes Curtis Samuel, although keeping him around cannot be dismissed entirely if the money works for all parties.

If Samuel leaves for new pastures, the Commanders need another weapon capable of providing immediate assistance. This is a deep draft class to potentially strengthen the ranks. There should be a few intriguing free agents worthy of consideration. Adam Peters might also look to explore a potential trade if the situation dictates.

Peters is familiar with Brandon Aiyuk. He was part of the San Francisco 49ers staff that drafted the wideout. Going back to his old employers with an acceptable offer for the dynamic pass-catcher comes with obvious benefits attached.

There is growing speculation linking Aiyuk with a move away from San Francisco this offseason. There is only so much money to go around. Brock Purdy has a year left on his seventh-round rookie deal before becoming extension-eligible. Aiyuk might be the odd man out.

If the Niners start taking calls for Aiyuk, the Commanders should inquire. And who knows, maybe Peters' strong relationship with John Lynch could get something worked out.
