4 bold predictions for the Commanders at NY Giants in Week 7
By Dean Jones
Commanders DT Daron Payne gains 2+ sacks
If there was one area where the Washington Commanders might be able to exploit in Week 7, it's the New York Giants offensive line. This group is going through some severe complications - especially on the interior - so it would be a major disappointment if the team's star-studded defensive front couldn't capitalize.
Already missing rookie center John Michael-Schmitz and stud left tackle Andrew Thomas, the Giants also placed Shane Lemieux on injured/reserve this week and listed Evan Neal as questionable. Considering the strength of Washington's four four or five depending on the schematic alignment, they should feast.
Daron Payne has just one sack on the season after receiving a megabucks contract extension to prevent him from leaving in free agency. While his overall production remains decent enough, this represents a good chance to get his numbers up against inferior opposition talent-wise.
As previously stated, the Giants are likely going to rely on the running attack to gain momentum. But when pass-rushing opportunities arrive, Payne and his teammates must take advantage.
If the former Alabama star can recognize the significant opportunity awaiting him in this one, then attaining two or more sacks would be a bold yet attainable prediction. Something that could potentially kick-start Payne's campaign in this particular statistical category along the way.
