Commanders joint practices vs. Ravens

This won't be taking place in Ashburn, more's the pity. But fans can make the short trip to Baltimore for one of the most important few days of Washington Commanders training camp in 2023.

Joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens are going to be a solid measuring stick for the Commanders. Something that could provide a broader indication of what Ron Rivera's men can accomplish when competitive action begins.

Lamar Jackson and his newly acquired weapons will be a tough challenge for the Commanders' defense. Their offense is also going to get all they can handle from a Baltimore defensive unit that includes star names in Roquan Smith, Kyle Hamilton, and Marlon Humphrey.

The Ravens are also renowned for being one of the most physical football teams around. Washington must stand up and match this, even if it means things boiling over on occasion.

At least on paper, the Commanders look well-matched with the Ravens aside from the quarterback spot. Something that should only raise the level of competitiveness when the pads start clapping.

If the Commanders can emerge from these joint practices on an even keel with the Ravens - who are expected to make the postseason - then it represents a solid platform from which to build. Anything less could give Rivera plenty to ponder before some tough upcoming decisions.
