3 reasons the Washington Commanders will beat the NY Giants in Week 2
The Washington Commanders will play the first home game of the season against their long-time division rival New York Giants. Despite how badly the new era started at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the G-Men had an even worse showing versus the Minnesota Vikings. This should be an ideal time to open up the playbook a little bit and see what Jayden Daniels can do.
It should also be a chance for the Commanders to see what the character of the defense is, and if Joe Whitt Jr. will have his group ready to face a less-talented offense. For this revamped unit to get the ball rolling, they need to execute better in all phases.
A lot is being made of this being a potential must-win for both teams if they want to prolong the possibility of their making the playoffs. There may be some truth to that, but it's still too early to tell. Commanders fans should have legitimate hope as they are being picked by experts to come out on top.
Daniel Jones historically has had the Commanders' number. During his career, the quarterback's record against Washington is 5-2-2, while their head coach Brian Daboll is 3-0-1. But that was against a different set of coaches.
With that being said, here are three reasons why the Commanders will beat the Giants at Northwest Stadium.
Reasons the Commanders will beat NY Giants in Week 2
Commanders will capitalize on splash plays
The Commanders didn't cause a single turnover in Week 1. They also had only one sack, despite having opportunities for several others. They were playing a very good opponent. The Buccaneers have high aspirations this year, and rightly so. However, the same can not be said for the Giants.
Daniel Jones completed just over half of his passes, failed to reach 200 yards, tossed two interceptions, and finished with a 44.3 passer rating in Week 1. For a guy already on the hot seat, it was the exact kind of start both he and his team feared. The Commanders can obliterate his confidence this week. All they have to do is capitalize on the mistakes that he is going to make.
And rest assured, he is going to make them.
With Emmanuel Forbes Jr. out of the lineup, the Commanders will not see him get beaten by rising star wideout Malik Nabers. However, Washington will still have its hands full with him. The key to a decisive victory is to pressure Daniels and force him into some of his typical errors.
If they can do that and cause a turnover here and there, along with hopefully getting Jamison Crowder a few chances to make a special teams splash or two, the Commanders could win this game without needing to put up 30 points.
