Commanders could regret passing on Will Levis
While there was speculation about the Washington Commanders taking a quarterback at some stage during the 2023 NFL Draft, those in power resisted the urge and will officially go all-in with Sam Howell. A decision that is likely to determine the future of head coach Ron Rivera for good or bad.
The Commanders are placing a substantial amount of faith in Howell to build on a positive debut in Week 18 against the Dallas Cowboys. But when Will Levis slipped out of the first round completely, moving up for the Kentucky product was something to consider.
Levis' arm strength and physical stature indicate a productive career could be in the offing. However, some decision-making flaws and other red flags meant he slumped much further down the pecking order than expected.
It didn't take long for Levis to hear his name called on Day 2. The Tennessee Titans traded up for the signal-caller at No. 33 overall, which was a steep fall from grace and one that can provide extra motivation for the player upon embarking on his NFL journey.
If Howell cannot provide the stability desperately needed under center for the Commanders and Levis puts everything together, not considering him would be classed as a grave error in judgment. But there's just no telling for sure at this juncture.
