Frankie Luvu - Commanders LB

After the linebacking corps became another frustrating weak link last season, Adam Peters moved to change that as a matter of urgency. The Washington Commanders pulled off a coup with the signing of perennial All-Pro Bobby Wagner. They also managed to secure the services of Frankie Luvu for good measure.

Some fans might not be familiar with Luvu. He went relatively overlooked on the Carolina Panthers as the franchise plunged into disgrace under team owner David Tepper. But make no mistake, this is a tone-setting force who can revitalize Washington's defensive second level.

Luvu won a starting job for the Panthers in 2022 and excelled. His ferocity, instincts, and ability to make plays in key moments were impressive traits associated with his outstanding production. The former undrafted free agent plays every down like it's his last. This infectious energy is something teammates feed off.

The Commanders quickly made Luvu one of their top priorities when the legal tampering period began. He got an offer to stay in Carolina, but the allure of being deployed in Dan Quinn's creative defensive scheme was too tempting to turn down.

If Luvu picks up some information to improve further off Wagner and maintains his upward trajectory, he'll become the beating heart of the Commanders' new defense. Whether it's rushing the passer, getting to the contact point quickly on running plays, or assisting in coverage, the Washington State product is a genuine three-down threat capable of taking over any game.

That's what the Commanders have lacked from their linebackers in recent years. Ron Rivera constantly overlooked the position group despite its failings, With Luvu and Wagner leading the charge - coupled with the presence of Jamin Davis and talented rookie Jordan Magee - this unit is one to watch in 2024.

Luvu got pretty decent money over his three-year deal from the Commanders. If everything clicks immediately. this financial investment will pay off in no uncertain terms.
