What storylines are worth keeping a close eye on when the Washington Commanders conclude their preseason engagements later today?

The race to the 53-man roster concludes on Saturday night when the Washington Commanders take on the Cincinnati Bengals. This also ends the team's preseason engagements as their Week 1 encounter against the Arizona Cardinals at FedEx Field draws ever closer.

Usually, these games are auditions. Not just for the Commanders, but for other teams as well.

This is a good opportunity for some players to put themselves in the shop window in the event Washington goes in a different direction. The Commanders aren't expected to play many starters, so it's the last chance saloon for many on the fringes looking to carve their path.

That said, here are three intriguing storylines to keep an eye on during Washington's preseason finale in 2023.

Commanders QB position

Despite many speculating whether Jacoby Brissett and Jake Fromm are in a battle for the QB2 spot behind Sam Howell, it looks pretty cut and dried, in all honesty.

Brissett is the more experienced quarterback - from playing behind Tom Brady to starting for the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns. The free-agent signing is a reliable option who can manage the game if the worst happens to Howell.

The Commanders do like Fromm. But is it possible that they will keep all three?

If I was a betting man, which I'm not, I would say yes. This means other roster spots be lost if that were to happen.

The Commanders haven't had any luck at the quarterback position for some time. Turning it over to the inexperienced Howell means they can never have enough decent backups.
