Commanders DL vs. Ravens offense

The one Achilles heel that has plagued the Washington Commanders' defense is stopping mobile quarterbacks. As we witnessed once again during the first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Deshaun Watson started to scramble out and pick up positive yardage. Mobile signal-callers have hurt this team, even though the Baltimore Ravens most likely will go with Tyler Hurtley instead of Lamar Jackson under center, the threat is real.

Jackson would have been a very good test for the Commanders' defense, Hurtley is not as talented, but he is very compatible to get the job done. Even Daniels Jones last season was Jackson.

The strength of this defense is the front four. But can the linebackers hold the gaps?

Cody Barton and Jamin Davis have to make strives to control the middle. The coverage against the Browns was solid but still gave some yards. This week in joint practice the defense was getting after Jackson, making it difficult for him to find receivers open.

They were being active and physical if the ball wasn't landing in some players' hands, it was hitting the ground. With Chase Young on the sideline, it gave a chance for other guys to take some snaps.

Monday will be a lot more on display for the Commanders heading into the final preseason game. A good showing against the Ravens will point to some positive signs going into the 2023 season.
