Commanders could sign Cameron Brate

Arguably the best-remaining free agent available at this position on the market is Cameron Brate. He became a trusted target of Tom Brady's during their time together on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but with the legendary quarterback now happily retired, the tight end became a necessary salary-cap casualty for the organization this offseason.

Brate was obviously playing second-fiddle to other prolific performers such as Rob Gronkowski. But when the player's name was called, he always stepped up.

This became evident in key situations. Brate also has an uncanny ability to get open quickly in the red zone, resulting in an impressive 33 touchdowns throughout his career to date.

It's something of a surprise to see Brate still sitting on the market. An extremely deep draft class did not help his chances of finding a new home quickly, but the Washington Commanders makes a ton of sense if the former Harvard star is willing to accept a similar role.

There is nothing flashy about Brate, but he does all the little things well. He is also intelligent enough to get himself up to speed quickly, which is going to be key wherever he ends up next.
